Welcome to my site!

Over the past year I have been on a journey to transform my body, mind, and spirit with the help of Bill Phillips's  (New York Times best seller of Body for Life) "Transformation".  This journey has seen me through extreme stress which included job loss, home foreclosure, heartbreak, and depression.  As is the norm in life, I have been through numerous peaks and valleys but I have made a conscious decision to take control of my life.

In October of 2010 I ran my first half marathon in Denver, CO and loved the experience.  When I crossed the finish line and felt a feeling of success and triumph that I had never experienced before I knew that would not be my last.  In January of 2011, I ran my second half marathon in Phoenix, AZ.

In Phoenix I experienced pain and agony while running as a result of dehydration.  I crawled across the finish line in pain and later found my friends which the simple sight of them, crippled me in tears due to the pain and disappointment.  I still finished!  Two days later when I had recovered I decided I needed to do the unthinkable.

Two years ago, being 80 lbs heavier, I was unable to run even 4 blocks without walking but in 2011 I commited to running all 18 of the Rock & Roll half marathons and one full marathon.
Many of you followed my 2011 Journey as I traveled all over the United States running the entire Rock and Roll Series.  This journey pushed me to my limits and provide the chance to prove to myself and to the world that anything is possible.  I am not the same person I was one year ago.  I had committed to doing what was once unthinkable; what are YOU prepared to commit to?

My true goal for 2011 was to inspire people to do one thing in 2011 that was at one time unthinkable.  To commit to change your life in some way, your health, a bad habit or addiction?  Whatever it was, I challenged many who believed in what I was doing to also take part in it firsthand. Sign my guestbook telling me what you committed to in 2011 and how you achieved it.  I challenged followers to change this world together by changing ourselves!

I had also committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of youth in Arizona and around the country.  As a school administrator I have the great priviledge and calling to inspire and reach out to kids who are affected by childhood obesity.  I partnered with Team Future whose mission is to raise awareness and money to fight childhood obesity. Nearly 1 in 3 American children are overweight or obese. Yes, 1 in 3. And, they are now at huge risk for several diseases associated with obesity – diabetes, heart disease, even some types of cancer – that will be with them throughout their lives.  My journey last year not only raised awareness but also was spent reaching out to kids to improve their level of health and fitness.

Here is what I am committed to in 2011 and achieved:

So what is the goal for 2012?
As I completed my goals for 2012 and proved to myself and the world that ANYTHING is possible, I decided that my goal for 2012 should be large but should be outward looking.  A passion that emerged in 2011 was to encourage, inspire, and support people to change their lives and learn to truly live.  I went from being overweight to active, fit, and extremely happy and have a deep desire to help others do the same.

In no way do I expect people to go out and run 18 half/full marathons.  I do, however hope to continue to spread my message of doing the unthinkable in 2012.  Additionally, I want to help people change their lives by overcoming obesity.  In 2012 I would like to support and coach 100 people to lose 2012 pounds.  Like last year this is a huge goal, but unlike last year, my focus is to help anyone to become a healthier happier person who can live an active life by achieving optimal health.  Too many people are restricted by the weight they carry around with them day in and day out (I know because that was once me).

In addition to suporting those around me to fully live through their own transformation, I plan to continue to inspire and coach others to get active.  On January 15, 2012 I will lead a team of 15 Primavera Online High School staff and one student to complete their first (in most cases) half or full marthon.  Stay tuned as this website goes through a metamorphisis as a tool to train, inspire, and coach others.  Also stay tuned as I begin to create a book about my 2011 journey and the lessons learned along the 500+ mile journey.  Great things are about to happen in 2012; I hope you will join me.

I look forward to having the chance to inspire you!

Joseph
